Pu Yi was the last emperor of China. He abdicated in 1912 and a new government system was put in place after over 2000 years of emperors.
He was given the title of emperor at 6 years old after his uncle, the previous emperor, died. A few years later, Sun Yat-sen started a revolution that overtook this last dynasty. Pu Yi was allowed to live at the palace until 1924 when he was forced into exile. In 1932, he created a state called Manchukuo in Japan where he crowned himself emperor. This didn’t last for long, however, as in 1945, he was captured by the Soviet Union. Pu Yi was eventually handed over to the Chinese communist government, and was thrown in prison until 1959. He was released, but then died soon after in 1967 marking the death of the last imperial ruler of China.
